and social participation
If you are planning for a day, plant rice
If you are planning for 20 years, plan trees

Organizer: Youth Education Buddhist Center (YEBC)
Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
1. Name of Project: Dhammacarika Youth Camp Project or Youth Leadership Education
2. Vision and Mission Statement:
Major Cambodian peoples recognize themselves as Buddhists in which this faith has embraced their spirits, ways of living, culture and thought. Buddhism has played important roles in Cambodian society in the past, present and future. Through the profound teaching of moderation, middle path, self-reliance, mindfulness, ethic-based individuality, compassion, tolerance, non-violence and enlightenment have engaged Cambodian peoples with a standard of progressive spirituality.
Because of decades of civil war and social fragmentation, all social infrastructures have been weakened and many times split apart. Especially, Buddhism which is considered as the main institution and mould of Cambodian society has gradually been deteriorated. During Khmer Rouge regime, those extreme cadres started their expedition by destroying temples, sacred sites, burning scriptures, disrobing and murdering Bhikkhu monks. Definitely, they killed most of the educated figures. When most educated monks have been murdered and inhumanized, the chronic difficulty of national Buddhist education is clearly exhibited. Nowadays, we are lack of effective leaders, study texts and accurate curriculum, essentially, the tools for Bhikkhu monks who are going to take accountability of learning, teaching and spreading the concept of peace, reconciliation and sustainable development.
Seeing these deficits and disadvantages, we are the younger generations of Cambodia have initiated to establish Khmer Youth Education Buddhist Center to embark our journey specifically targeting young monks, students and children to provide them the opportunity to search their inner capacity, leadership, self-awareness and wisdom in order to engage and share with their neighbors and community in a larger scale.
3. Objectives:
Our important objectives are:
- To provide opportunity to young monks, students and children to explore their inner potential through meditation and interaction.
- To enhance and develop them social leadership capacity.
- To instruct them the awareness of learning sciences equipped with ethical responsibility.
- To guide them in an appropriate way of transforming their disadvantaged habits and negative thought to become wholesome and positive.
- To empower them to become good children, good students, good friends, good citizens and good Buddhists.
- To facilitate for them in learning, practicing, caring and spreading Khmer culture and tradition.
